The night photography conundrum

November 01, 2020  •  Leave a Comment

Tokyo is a great place to shoot at any time, but night in particular is when it's often at its most photogenic. The issue then becomes: black and white, or colour? For reasons that I think I understand but can't properly articulate, night photos often - but not always - look better in black and white. However, that takes some of the challenge out of getting interesting shots in colour. As I've been shooting in relatively dark conditions more often recently (it's approaching the end of the year so it gets darker earlier), I thought I'd put up a few pictures of Tokyo "after dark", so to speak, with a mixture of colour and b/w shots. A lot of these are from the area around Shibuya station, with a few from elsewhere.

Hope you like them!

More photos (in all kinds of light) to come.

Thanks for looking!
