Summer is slowly heading towards autumn here, meaning that there are actually times during the day when Nagoya feels fit for human habitation. It also means I can go out all day with my cameras and actually enjoy the process rather than "putting up with it in order to get the pictures", which is how you experience the peak of summer here.
The first stop yesterday was a display hall in the local park, where a bonsai display was being held. I've never shot bonsai before, and I figured that the Sigma would be ideal for this as long as I could get enough light. I could; I didn't need to go above ISO 200 at any time, so the Sigma was in its element.
By the way, Zenfolio made some layout changes to the site, so while the pictures look a little smaller, you can click on them to get the full size.
Following this, I went out into the actual outdoors for what I call "light practice", i.e. finding a subject with interesting light and capturing it accurately.
Before I went out yesterday I was watching a youtube documentary on Henri Cartier Bresson. He always spoke about geometry and form as the keys to a photo (even more so than light: he described light as "like a perfume"). So I was also on the lookout for some interesting shapes and scenes.
And I also wanted to try and blatantly copy pay homage to his black and white street photography
Elsewhere...a sprinkler
...a red gate
...something
...trees dwarfing people
And finally some pretty awesome reflections down at Nagoya Station
Bonsai to big tall buildings via HCB wannabe shots, studded red mannequins. Pretty much standard for a Sunday walk in Japan!
Thanks for looking!
This is a collection of posts. Some (most) have a particular theme, but some are just collections. I try to only include my best shots in here.
