Geinoh Yamashirogumi (with video content)

Shooting video is something I very rarely do. However, when you get the opportunity to see a group like Geinoh Yamashirogumi play live, and both photography and video recording are permitted,  you do both.

If you're familiar with the groundbreaking anime "Akira", you may well know of Geinoh Yamashirogumi, as they created the incredible soundtrack. If they're a new name to you, they are a very large musical collective with people from all walks of life, whose primary focus is on various types of world music (as well as other areas of performing arts, as the pictures will show), especially from South-east Asia.  They also mix this old traditional music with modern synthesizers, which is something you can hear a lot of on the Akira soundtrack.

Earlier this month they put on a performance in Shinjuku, and I was there, cameras in hand. The video was shot on my iPhone 7 plus and I make no claims as to its quality, but I've embedded three youtube videos should you want to hear as well as see. There are only ten pictures in this set, so the videos are designed as supplementary material. Hope you enjoy both the pictures and the videos!

"Battle with clown"

"Exodus from the underground fortress"

While I certainly don't have anything like as much experience shooting video as I do shooting stills, it's an interesting thing to do now and then. I don't foresee myself doing it regularly, but a break from the usual style never hurts.

Much more to come (on the stills front).

Thanks for looking!
