There are a number of what we might call major elements of photography, and while trying to think of a theme for this entry, I had the idea of doing a single blog post for each of the elements : colour, light, and composition. (There's also "gesture", which is something I picked up from looking at / reading / watching Jay Maisel, but that's not as easy to pinpoint so I'm leaving it out of this particular set).

In other words, the "colour" post (this one) would feature photos in which colour was the most important element, and the same for light and composition, respectively.

This isn't as straightforward as it sounds, as there are some photos where it's not immediately obvious which is the dominant element. So there's a level of subjectivity in there too.

Enough theory, though, and on to the pictures. These were all chosen because for me, colour is the most important part of the picture. Hope you like them!

This next one (and the variation on it which comes later on) could also have gone in the "light" category. The reason they're here instead is that, in my estimation, converting them to black and white (which can often make the light even more of a factor) would have had a negative overall effect on the picture by getting rid of the strong red colour.
