The "Comfort Zone"

March 22, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

I think many photographers have a "comfort zone" (as it is referred to): a way of shooting and/or equipment setup with which they feel most at home. I do; I'm using it now (the D600 and 70-300, a lens which I have used a lot on previous DSLRs). However, there is a lot of talk about "going outside your comfort zone", i.e. pushing yourself to do things which you find more difficult or don't normally do. For instance someone who mainly shoots telephoto tries to shoot wide (or vice-versa), someone who mainly shoots with small compacts experiments with a larger camera (and again vice-versa).

An alternative way of seeing it: staying in your comfort zone may result in a certain type of shot....but you'll also get better at it. Just an idea.

Anyway. These are some recent shots from my "comfort zone" setup. All D600 with 70-300. Hope you enjoy them.

More to come from this setup. I'm also going to be shooting a boxing event, so that will hopefully form another entry later. Plus there may be some more film scans on the way.

Thanks for looking!
