Coexistence, or, film and digital playing together

There seem to be some in the world of photography who are purists and won't shoot digital (although I think they are fewer and fewer in number as time goes by), and there are those who think film is past its sell-by date and only shot for reasons of nostalgia.

I can't really see the point of either argument, although it's only been a year or so since I started shooting film. Nevertheless, I find it an interesting and alternative way to shoot. While the DP Merrill 3 gets about as many shots on a battery charge as there are in a roll of film (and I'm hardly exaggerating), you can still review the image and shoot it again if you don't like what you got. Not an option with film, really. So I find that while I do try and make every shot count with both film and digital, it's much easier to do with film because you have precisely one shot at each picture.

Anyway. Here are some shots from a bunch of scanned negatives I recently got back from the local camera shop. It's a mix of 35mm slide, 35mm b/w and the result of a brief dalliance with 120 film (a film Hasselblad which I had to sell for various reasons: nevertheless, I think I might be back in the medium format film game soon, he says mysteriously....).

Enough talk, and more pictures. Here we go.

And finally some shots with the Hasselblad. Like I mentioned, I couldn't keep it for various reasons, but there may be more medium format goodness coming in the future.

OK...back to the regular mix of shooting film and digital!

Thanks for looking, keep an eye out for future posts on film and, possibly, some more 120.
