Keeping at it

June 14, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

I've never once thought of photography as something I "have to do"; it's always been something I "liked to do". Nevertheless, I've also come to the conclusion that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing properly. Thus the title "keeping at it". It also refers to updating this blog: if I don't do it once a week (if possible) or twice a month (at the minimum) it feels like I'm not trying hard enough to improve.

Anyway, that's just a random thought to introduce this week's collection. All from the Sigma DP3 Merrill, and with no unifying theme in particular.

Study in lines

Study in shadows

Study in light

I have a rather cynical thought process regarding photo contests, due to an experience I once had with one. I entered what I thought was one of my better shots, but it wasn't selected. That in itself didn't particularly bother me (these things are subjective, anyway) but what did bother me was when the contest - which was allegedly of the "free subject" type - displayed its top ten photos as selected by the viewing public  - always a sign of solid artistic judgement (coughs). I should have known before I even saw them, but eight of them had children in them (and of these, at least half of them were technically poor and artistically unimaginative). You can now visualize me rolling my eyes.

But I digress. Three "parent and kid" shots coming up as an on-the-record middle finger to the organizers of said contest!

These things seem to be coming in threes. Three dance pictures:

Urban abstract

Two "couples" shots

Curiosity

Empty bottle

Not sure about the sentiment, but a stylish way to travel

Plenty more to come, and as always thanks for looking!

This is a collection of posts. Some (most) have a particular theme, but some are just collections. I try to only include my best shots in here.

If you like what you see, please leave a message and I'll try to answer all comments.

Thank you!
