The Tokyo Marathon rolled into town a couple of weeks ago. I'd already decided, as a sort of challenge to myself, to shoot it entirely with the iPhone. That turned out to be quite a good idea, because you can often shoot an iPhone with one hand, and I needed the other to hold an umbrella. The weather was terrible.
As I was (trying to) shoot in this way, while making use of sheltered places where I could use both hands, I realised that umbrellas were going to play a major role all day, so why not try and deliberately include them in the pictures? With an iPhone, I wasn't going to be doing any telephoto shooting or continuous autofocus type shooting, and I've done all that before, so this would also serve as a chance to find different angles and views.
Anyway, here are the results, in no particular order. Hope you like them!
At Kanda station (where the above two pictures were taken), I took a short break to grab a snack at a convenience store, and stood under a sheltered area to eat it. While I was there, I noticed an interesting arrangement of light and shadow a hundred or so metres away, and remembered the words of Jay Maisel : don't get so focused on what you plan to photograph that you miss everything else. So, here is a short umbrella-related interlude.
And back to the main event...
I look forward to shooting future marathons in somewhat better weather.
More to come, so pay a visit now and then.
Thanks for looking!
This is a collection of posts. Some (most) have a particular theme, but some are just collections. I try to only include my best shots in here.
