A tame sheep chase

August 16, 2020  •  Leave a Comment

Quick note on the title: "A wild sheep chase" is one of my favourite Haruki Murakami books...along with almost everything else I've read of his.

In central-ish Hokkaido there is a town called Shibetsu - or, as I have unofficially renamed it, Sheepbetsu. It has an interesting facility which comes across as a combination of sheep farm and sheep-related information centre. (If you have read the book I mentioned above, it's the kind of place you might imagine the Sheep Professor working at). Anyway. We went there. The weather was great. The light was good. And there were sheep, although I didn't see any with stars on their backs. Hope you like these!

They have demonstrations of sheep herding, too. The sheepdog on duty that day was named "Sara". However, one particular sheep seemed disinclined to be bossed around:

I may take next week off, but there should be more pictures coming in due course.

Thanks for looking!
