The inner game of photography

March 03, 2019  •  Leave a Comment

The title is an allusion to "The Inner Game of Tennis", an important early book on sports psychology (and far more) which had a huge effect on me when I read it as a teenager and keen-but-not-particularly-good tennis player. The main thrust of the book is that trying too hard has negative results, and you do your best when you're focused, but not overtly so, and it seems like it's happening through you rather than by you.

The scope of the book extends past tennis and, in a way, to everything. The connection to photography is that I've found that you have days when you go out and pictures almost fall in your lap, and other days when you get next to nothing. The pictures in this post are of the former kind - I wasn't really looking for them, and there they were. Anyway, hope you like them!
