Spontaneous and planned

October 20, 2019  •  Leave a Comment

Most of the pictures I take are what I'd call "spontaneous", in the sense that I don't go out thinking "today I'm going to go here and photograph this". I basically photograph what catches my eye, wherever it happens to be. But now and then you hear about an event and think "I should go and shoot that". In this case, "shoot" was the right word; the event was a demonstration of old firearms (and this being Japan, everything was co-ordinated immaculately). So the first five pictures here are what I'd call "planned".

The remaining pictures are from my normal method: walking a lot and seeing what's out there (I remember reading how Henri-Cartier Bresson attributed his long life to, among other things, walking a great deal).

More to come, stay tuned.

Thanks for looking!
