Travel shots part 6: Taiwan part 3

January 26, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

The last part of the Taiwan series.

To see something other than Taipei (not that there's anything wrong with Taipei) we took a half-day trip to a place called Jiufen. It became famous after being named as a possible inspiration for the design of an extremely famous and highly regarded anime film, called "Spirited Away" in English.

We stopped on the way to get some shots of a somewhat rough sea...

The foul weather didn't let up, and the main attraction of Jiufen, a long shopping street (the apparent influence on the film) was heavily crowded and rather dark. I only got a couple of shots from it.

Back to Taipei, where I tried something that had not worked for me before: pushing the Sigma to high ISOs. This time the results weren't as bad as I had anticipated.

To finish off this series, a few shots from the park which was literally across the road from our hotel, and quite possibly informed its name: the park's name is "Daan" (大安 in Chinese, I think), and the hotel is known as the "Dandy hotel" (a nice hotel too, definitely recommended if you happen to go to Taiwan).

I got lucky and chanced upon these little guys too:

That's it for Taiwan. There'll be more to come on other subjects in due course.

Thanks for looking!
