The colours of Autumn, part 3: lightup

December 17, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

One of the cool things about Japan in the autumn is how gardens will have special events in which they illuminate the autumn colours at night. By placing spotlights at strategic areas, they create a pretty impressive effect. This is the subject of this post.

This is (as you can probably guess) not an area where the Sigma is in its element; it would be fair to say that without a tripod, it would be drowning here and these places are usually packed with people, so a tripod isn't practical. So this is where the X100S stepped up.

The following shots are from Shirotori Garden in Nagoya and Kenrokuen in Kanazawa. As an aside, this kind of shoot is when you appreciate a good electronic viewfinder. I'm coming round to them more and more and as the technology behind them increases, I can see them eventually overtaking optical viewfinders. They're incredibly useful. I found that with spot metering and a good EVF, I can work the exposure to exactly where it looks good to me and then shoot.

Anyway. To the pictures.

That concludes the "Autumn colours" posts. Next up should be some shots from Kanazawa, Ise and the world heritage site Shirakawa-go, in that order. Or maybe not. Or maybe combined, we'll see.

Thanks for looking!

This is a collection of posts. Some (most) have a particular theme, but some are just collections. I try to only include my best shots in here.

If you like what you see, please leave a message and I'll try to answer all comments.

Thank you!
