Ito: landscape

July 25, 2021  •  Leave a Comment

As travel is still essentially a domestic thing, we did another day trip, this time to Ito in Shizuoka.

This was an interesting day out photographically, because the light was very flat, producing extremely low contrast pictures which needed quite a bit of post processing. Even some of the photos I took with the iPhone, with all its computational tricks, looked a bit washed out.

Still, what is photography if not an endless experiment? So here's the first set from Ito, all landscapes, mostly shot from the same area. Hope you enjoy them.

When I started post processing these, I realised that if I converted them to black and white and kept the contrast relatively low, they almost had a feeling of what's known as sumi-e, Japanese ink brush painting, where the picture is mainly suggested through simple brush strokes. So here's a few of those.

And to round off this one, a photo I call "I'm more important than Mount Fuji".

The concluding part of the Ito pictures will be up in a week or two and will be based around the town and beaches.

Thanks for looking!
